Our Journey
Uniting Communities, Celebrating Cultures
Context
Established with the vision of promoting Hindu values and culture, the West Midlands Hindu Forum has been a cornerstone of community engagement and cultural preservation. Since its inception, the Forum has tirelessly worked to bridge gaps between diverse communities, fostering understanding and mutual respect. Our history is rich with initiatives that have not only celebrated Hindu traditions but also contributed significantly to the multicultural tapestry of the region. Through educational programs, cultural festivals, and community service, we continue to uphold our commitment to enriching lives and building a cohesive society.
The West Midlands Hindu Forum has made significant strides since its inception in 2019, demonstrating resilience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to community engagement. The forum began on May 4, 2019, when 15 Hindu community leaders convened at the B2022 Commonwealth Games offices in Birmingham to discuss potential community involvement in the upcoming games. The COVID-19 pandemic unexpectedly catalyzed the forum’s development. In 2020, faced with the impossibility of traditional Navratri celebrations, the community showcased remarkable digital adaptability by organizing a virtual Navratri celebration. This innovative event connected 20 Hindu Mandirs and organizations via Zoom, laying the groundwork for future collaborations. Building on this success, the Diwali 2020 celebration expanded to include 30 Hindu Mandirs and organisations. The presence of distinguished guests, such as the Mayor of West Midlands and the Consulate General for India, underscored the community’s growing influence and recognition.
The West Midlands Hindu Forum officially came into being on April 18, 2021, with the election of its committee. Adopting its constitution on November 14, 2021, further solidified its structure and purpose. A notable achievement was the forum’s participation in the B2022 Commonwealth Games. They nominated six Hindu chaplains as part of a 30-strong, multi-faith chaplaincy team, showcasing their ability to contribute meaningfully to significant regional events and demonstrating the community’s collaborative spirit
